At FIRA USA 2025, leading agricultural equipment manufacturer John Deere will showcase a suite of autonomous and precision farming technologies for orchard and vineyard management.

Highlights include:

  • GUSS Autonomous Sprayers
  • The new 5EN tractor equipped with Smart Apply technology
  • An Autonomous Orchard Tractor
  • The advanced See & Spray™ precision ag system

GUSS Autonomous Sprayers: Efficiency Meets Autonomy

Developed in partnership with GUSS Automation, the GUSS (Global Unmanned Spray System) lineup includes the Orchard GUSS, mini GUSS and Herbicide GUSS. These autonomous sprayers are engineered to tackle the labor-intensive task of orchard spraying with unmatched precision and safety. Using GPS, LiDAR, and proprietary software, a single operator can manage up to eight machines remotely, significantly reducing labor costs and exposure to chemicals

5EN Tractor with Smart Apply Intelligent Spray Control

John Deere will also display its new 5EN tractor with Smart Apply Intelligent Spray Control System™, a technology acquired by John Deere in 2023. Smart Apply uses LiDAR to detect individual trees and adjusts spray volume based on foliage density and tree size. This results in up to 50% savings in chemical and water usage while minimizing drift and improving environmental sustainability

The integration of Smart Apply with GUSS sprayers offers growers the best of both worlds — automated spraying and intelligent precision. This combination is available as a factory-installed option or as a Precision Upgrade for existing GUSS machines.

John Deere 5ML Autonomous Orchard Tractor

Also making its debut at FIRA USA is John Deere’s Autonomous Orchard Tractor, first unveiled at CES 2025. This tractor is designed specifically for high-value crop operations and to integrate seamlessly with other autonomous systems. It represents John Deere’s commitment to high-value crops by integrating precision ag technologies that can increase productivity, maximize efficiency and reduce operating costs.

Targeted Weed Control with See & Spray™ Technology

John Deere’s See & Spray™ system will also be featured as part of its precision ag technology suite. See & Spray™ technology uses advanced computer vision and machine learning to detect, target and treat weeds, reducing herbicide use and improving crop health. It’s a key component of John Deere’s broader strategy to deliver smarter, more sustainable farming solutions.

FIRA USA 2025

John Deere’s presence at FIRA USA 2025 underscores its leadership in agricultural automation and precision technology. The company’s autonomous machinery and intelligent spray systems are just a few examples of the tools available to help growers meet the challenges of labor shortages and rising input costs.

Additionally, John Deere and the Blue River Technology team will sponsor Open Innovation Day on 21 October.

At FIRA USA, 21-23 October in Woodland, CA, attendees can see 35+ agricultural robots in three demo zones. Technology ranges from the commercially available technology offered by John Deere to prototypes created by startups.
