Turning Drone Images into Per-Tree Decisions: Precision Agri Tech and Treelytics
Orchard management has always relied on experience, careful observation and, out of necessity, a fair amount of sampling.

Walking every row to assess every tree is simply not practical at scale. Drones, multispectral imaging and in-field software are starting to change that, giving tree fruit growers a complete picture of their blocks rather than a handful of data points to base decisions on.
Washington State-based Precision Agri Tech is one company working in this space. Founded by Shahid Razzaq, who brings more than 20 years of R&D experience from big tech and startups, the company flies agricultural drones over orchards, extracts data for every individual tree, and delivers it to growers through Treelytics, an easy-to-use in-field app. That per-tree view supports key decisions through the season, from crop load management and yield estimation to harvest planning. Ahead of FIRA USA, where the company will be demonstrating Treelytics live, we spoke to Shahid about how it all began, what growers can do with per-tree data, and what comes next.
GOFAR: Can you introduce Precision Agri Tech and tell us how it all started?
SR: I started Precision Agri Tech with the goal of using technology to improve productivity in the field. We are a drone service company, and our process is simple. We fly drones over orchards to capture images of the trees, we process those images to extract data for each individual tree, and growers receive the results in Treelytics, our in-field app.
GOFAR: If you had to sum up your mission in one sentence, what would it be?
SR: Our mission is to bring meaningful improvements in agricultural productivity through efficient and responsible technological innovation.
GOFAR: What is Treelytics, and how does a grower use it in the field day to day?
SR: Treelytics is a user-friendly in-field app that shows growers every tree in their orchard on a map. They choose the scan they are interested in and the metric they want to look at, such as fruit count, size or color. Treelytics then colorizes the trees, which makes patterns in the data visible at a glance.
From there, growers can create tasks using their own criteria. For example, they might want to inspect trees in rows 1 to 20 that have a low fruit count or a lower health (NDVI) score. Those tasks can be sent to another Treelytics user, who can use the app to navigate to the targeted trees and carry out the task.
GOFAR: Where does the data come from, and why did you choose to make the app the heart of your solution?
SR: The data comes from processing the drone imagery. We have built proprietary algorithms using AI and computer vision that extract fruit count, size and color for each individual tree.
The app is at the heart of the solution because data by itself can’t improve productivity until it changes the way operations are done in the field. Treelytics is that easy-to-use tool that makes it possible.
GOFAR: What can a grower learn about each tree that they couldn’t know before without your solution?
SR: We specifically use agricultural drones that can capture infrared light, which is invisible to the human eye. This lets us detect stress earlier, so growers can act sooner to help the affected trees.
Beyond that, per-tree data is a big step up from the traditional approach of sampling a few trees. Growers can make decisions based on complete data, with no gaps in the information.
GOFAR: How does that help them in practice, for example with crop load management, labor planning or harvest timing?
SR: It supports the whole season. Early on, it helps with crop load management. Through the season, it makes ongoing orchard operations more efficient, both in planning and in execution. Then, as harvest approaches, it supports yield estimation and labor planning.
GOFAR: What’s next for Precision Agri Tech over the coming year?
SR: For the coming year, our focus is orchard trials and learning from growers how best to support them in the field.
GOFAR: Why did you decide to join FIRA USA, and what will visitors discover at your booth and demo?
SR: FIRA is a dedicated AgTech event built around live demonstrations, which is exactly what we want to show growers: less talk and more action.
Visitors will be able to explore Treelytics using data from our demo orchard. They can assess the state of the trees, work out a plan of action, then create, share and carry out tasks in the field.
GOFAR: What are you hoping to get out of the event, and who would you love to meet there?
SR: We would love to meet growers who are curious and open to using new technology to improve their productivity. We would like to show them how Treelytics can be an effective tool for improving productivity in the orchard.
